The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster PA474 seen here in the late 1970’s overflying
Fiskerton airfield. The airfield’s Watch Office (Control Tower) can be seen below the Lancaster
with the Avro B1 Hangar to the middle right. The Technical site where all the Flight offices and
associated airfield buildings were is below the port wing of the Lancaster.
The base for the T2 Hangar can also be seen (Many of these hangars were dismantled post war
and sold to the Dutch farmers where one presumes they are still in use today).
The Squadron ʻBʼ Flight dispersal area can be seen to the top of the photograph, with the eastern
head of the main runway and perimeter tracks visible. Due to vandalism every structure has now
been demolished by the land owner. It is the area behind and to the top right of the Lancaster
where the Solar panels have been installed. Lark Energy, the company installing these panels
have undertaken a commitment to ensure the remaining concrete operating surfaces remain
in perpetuity, the local Council designating the airfield of historical interest. The Council are
looking into putting an information board up on the airfield informing visitors of what was here
during the war years and after.
